Using Katha Studio

Before you begin

You need an approved publisher account. Apply through Publish; applications are reviewed manually rather than approved automatically.

On approval you receive 15 expansion credits, which pay for translating your work. A further credit is added when your first chapter is published. Both grants are one-time.

Writing and publishing a chapter

1. Create the story

   Set the title, description, cover, genres and the language you write in. The story is the container; chapters live inside it.

   You can also nominate the languages you eventually want the story available in. Selecting them costs nothing — translation is charged later, per chapter.

2. Open the editor

3. Write

   The text saves automatically while you write. Target word counts, reading times and sprint goals are kept in the status bar at the bottom of the editor.

   Notes, plot summaries and character reminders live in the tabs on the right rail, next to your text rather than in a separate document.

4. Set chapter details

   Before submitting, confirm:

   • Chapter title and number
   • Author's note — shown to readers at the end of the chapter
   • Content warnings — shown as a brief notice before readers open it
   • Release timing — publish immediately on approval, or schedule a date and time

5. Submit for review

   Press Submit for review. This sends the chapter to the moderation queue.

   Submitting locks the chapter. You cannot edit the text while it is under review, scheduled or published. Review all text and settings before submitting.

6. Review and release

   A Novira reviewer checks the chapter against the content guidelines. When approved:

   • If you set a scheduled time, it publishes at that moment. Scheduled slots need at least two hours' notice so the review can finish first.
   • If you left the time empty, it publishes immediately on approval.

Translating a chapter

Novira can translate your chapters into 33 languages — 15 Indian languages, 3 East Asian, 8 European and 6 others.

What it costs

Translation is paid for with expansion credits. These are a separate balance from the credits used by Novira Translate, and the two cannot be exchanged.

How a translation reaches readers

A finished translation is not published automatically. It needs two approvals: yours first, then a Novira reviewer's. Only then does it appear to readers.

What Katha Studio does not do

• It does not run on mobile. The editor is desktop only.
• It does not publish on demand. Everything passes a quality check first, so allow time between finishing a chapter and its release.
• Chapters cannot be edited once submitted. Review, scheduled and published chapters are all locked.
• Character names can vary between translated chapters, because each chapter is translated on its own.

If something goes wrong

The editor will not open on my phone

That is expected. Open Novira on a laptop or desktop and sign in with the same account.

I pressed Publish but the chapter is not live

Publishing submits the chapter for a quality check. It goes live once a reviewer approves it, or at your scheduled time if you set one.

I cannot edit a chapter I submitted

Chapters lock once they are in review, scheduled or published. Copy the text into a new chapter if you need to rework it.

My scheduled time was rejected

Scheduling needs at least two hours' notice so the review can finish first. Pick a later slot.

My translated chapter is not visible to readers

It has to be approved by a Novira reviewer after you approve it. Check its status in your dashboard.
